New Delhi: In a country like India which has a huge population of 1.28 billion, providing employment is a big challenge.
India has around 487-million workforce
out of which over 94% are working in unorganised sectors which are
basically labour oriented and and rest 6% are working in organised
sectors which include workers employed by government, self- owned
enterprises and private sectors.
1. Indian Railways(1.4 million)
Indian state-owned and operated by
government of India through Ministry of Railways, Indian railways is the
largest employer in India and eigth in world with 1.4 million
employees. The emlpoyment is given through a process of recruitment by
Railway Recruitment Boards(RRBs) which calls eligible Indian citizens
through emlpoyment news for recruitments of various Technical,
non-technical and para medical posts in groups A,B,C and cadre.
2. Indian Armed Forces(1.3 million)
Indian armed forces stands at 9th
position in employment providing field. The Indian Armed forces with
it's four uniformed services: the Indian Navy, Indian army, Indian Air
Force3 and India coast guard provides employment to 1.3million
people.The Indian Armed Forces ,which are managed by Ministry of Defence
with 1.3 active personnel is also 3rd largest military force and world
largest volunteer military.
3. India Post(4.66 lakhs)
Trading as India Post, the department of
posts is a government- operated postal system which is generally
reffered as "The Post Office" provides employment to over 4.66 lakh
people of the population.The Indian post has the largest postal network
in the world with over 1.55 lakh post offices opening wide range of
opportunities for the citizes.Post offices are much in demand in rural
areas .There is a constant demand from customers to open more post
offices especially in newly developing urban agglomerations.
4. Tata Consultancy Service(TCS)(3 lakhs)
This modern world is moving fast with
new innovative technologies, equipment and incredible progress in all
areas. People's mind are now hibituated using technologies, so this
inclination have helped technology sector to raise. Tata Consultancy
Service has become the world's third largest employer of people in the
field of technology, with over 3 lakh employees. TCS has been recognized
by Brand Finance as one of the Big 4 Global IT Services Brands.
5. State Bank of India(2.22 lakhs)
State Bank of India, a global bank with a
network of branches in India and foreign offices in 32 countries, is
one of the Big Four banks of India, along with Bank of Baroda, Punjab
National Bank and ICICI Bank.The bank traces its ancestry to British
India, through the Imperial Bank of India, to the founding, in 1806, of
the Bank of Calcutta, making it the oldest commercial bank in the Indian
Subcontinent. It is big not only in sense of network but it is also a
big employment provider. A public sector banking and financial services
company has over 2.22 lakh employees.
6. Infosys(1.6 lakhs)
Infosys Technologies Limited is a
multinational corporation that stands second in IT services company that
provide business consulting,IT, software engineering and outsourcing
services. It holds 6th position in India's biggest employers by
providing employment to 1.6 lakhs people. On 15th February 2015, its
market capitalisation was ₹ 263,735 crores ($42.51 billion), making it
India's sixth largest publicly traded company.
7. IBM India Private Limited(1.5 lakhs)
It is the Indian subsidiary of IBM.
Since 2006, IBM has been able to maintain its position in the list of
largest number of employees in India as it has been multinational
company. 1.5 lakh people are employed in IBM aiding it to maintain it's
place in the ranking.
8. Wipro(1.34 lakhs)
